Boots

A few weeks ago, we spent the morning out playing with new kids.  A fellow two-year-old, Jack, had rain boots identical to a pair that Eli has.  Eli carried them around for a while.  When they had to go, Eli refused to give back the boots to Jack. They were HIS, and no amount of discussion was going to convince him otherwise. Eventually I had to pry his little hands off the boots and return them to their proper owner; Eli sobbed from then till we got home.

When we got home, Eli immediately went to his shelf and retrieved his boots. No matter how much I tried to tell him to the contrary, he was certain that Jack and snuck back to his house to return “Eli’s” boots to him.

And for three solid weeks he had to wear his boots every time we went out (even to church), just in case Jack–or another boy–”stole” his boots again.
